Temporary position and retirement annuity

3

Q. I am retired under CSRS. If I were to accept a temporary or term position (i.e. NTE one year), would my salary be offset by my retirement or would I be able to collect both?

A. Unless you were hired into one of those rare positions that allowed you to receive your annuity and the salary of your new job, your salary would be offset by the amount of your annuity.

I retired May 2020 under FERS with 25 years service. I am going back to work under FERS in a permanent position but the agency says I will be temporary until I am fully credentialed. How will this affect my retirement in a few years?

To add to my previous post to clarify, My previous employment was with The Dept of Treasury, the Census enumerator job was of course, temporary. Would not a NTE job be considered temporary also?

    • No, they are not the same. You’ll need to check with the agency that plans to hire you to see what affect on your annuity.
