CBP retirement calculation

Q. The Customs and Border Protection primary officer retirement formula is 1 percent until July 2008 and 1.7 percent after that. Do CBP officers (GS-1895) receive 1.1 percent for the non-modified law enforcement officer time if retiring at age 62 with 20 years of service? It appears that the Office of Personnel Management is not giving CBP officers the 1.1 percent for age 62 with 20 years of service. If not, why not?

A. OPM doesn’t use the higher multiplier because it would be against the law to do so.

I did retire on March 31, 2019 at 62 with 39 years of federal service. 10 years was under the new enhance retirement which at did pay the .5% require by FERS. 29 years of regular service. Can you tell me what formula OPM is going to use to calculate my retirement pension.

    • The CSRS portion of your annuity annuity will calculated under CSRS rules; the FERS portion under FERS rules.

I am planning to retire as soon as I can find out an estimation of the retirement I will receive. I started working 02/06/2006. I can’t find where to go, please advice.

    • Your servicing personnel office is the place to go when you want to find out if you are eligible to retire and to get an estimate of your retirement annuity.
