Q. I spent 13 years, 1987-2000, in the national guard, drill weekends and annual training periods. I have been working for the Department of Defense since 2006. Does any of this time count toward my retirement or leave accrual?

You would have needed some years of active duty in order for the time to have counted. However, if you want to know a secret pertaining to the time considered “lost”, contact at the info below.
Your initial basic training and occupational school should count. That is active duty. Check with HR and bring your dd214 along. You may be getting false advice here.
