Entitlement

Q. I am retired 23 years from the military, working now as GS and did not buy back time. By the time I am eligible for full retirement at 67, I will have about 15 years in FERS. Am I entitled to military, FERS and Social Security separate payments?

A. Yes, you’d be entitled to your active-duty military retirement, a FERS annuity based on your actual years of FERS service and a Social Security benefit based on all your Social Security-covered employment.

  1. He (or perhaps she) writes that he will be eligible for full retirement at 67 with 15 years in FERS. If that’s true, won’t he actually be eligible for full retirement at 62 with 10 years in FERS?

  2. Thanks! Just making sure, because I’m in a similar situation, but don’t plan on hanging around that long! Maybe he means 67 is his Social Security “full retirement” age.

  3. I first left federal service some 12 years ago and at that time was in FERS. Recently back in federal service under FERS retirement, but I can not remember if I withdrew my retirement funds or not. How will I know if I need to redeposit those funds or not? Can I tell by my LES or do I need to contact HR?
