Q. This is my last year receiving Supplemental Social Security (retired from the U.S. Postal Service as FERS in April 2016). I was born in the middle of the month of January. Will this supplement end in December of this year or will it include January 2018 – the month I turn 62 – and stop in February?
A. According to the Office of Personnel Management, “The retiree annuity supplement is payable through the earlier of the following dates:
1. The last day of the month in which the retiree becomes age 62; or
2. The last day of the month before the first month for which the retiree would, upon proper application, be entitled to Social Security benefits.
NOTE: For retirement and Social Security purposes, an individual attains or becomes 62 on the ‘first moment’ of the day before his or her 62nd birthday.”

This is WORSE than translating Russian. So does that mean his last supplement will be the Jan 1 direct deposit because he was born in January & His social security should click in on his Feb direct deposit?
I had this same question and checked into it. Their social security wont start until March because SS pays 1 month behind, so there will be no supplement payment or SS payment in February. They will get paid for January and then SS payments will start in March.

I stand corrected. You will receive the supplement in February for January. I had trusted a very reliable source for the above comment I made. I just received the following directly from OPM retirement services:
If you are entitled to the FERS Supplement, if even for one day, you should receive any amounts due you. OPM pays basic annuity benefits as the FERS Annuity Supplement one month in arrears. For instance, if you were born on the 29th of October and turn 62 on October 30, you are entitled to the FERS Supplement for the period October 29, thru October 30, even though it is one day. You would be paid for the period 10/01 thru 10/30 on November 1, which is for the month of October.

He will receive January’s FERS Supplement on February 1st, and February’s SS benefit sometime in March.

He can’t. If he’s going to turn 62, he’d do that on October 28.
