Q. I retired as a GS-14, CSRS employee, at 30 years. If I take a GS-15 position, does the retirement stop, or is the pay just offset by the amount of the annuity? Do you pay into the CSRS retirement fund or FERS, or can one defer? Does health insurance continue from the retirement or from the new payroll?
Q. As a FERS rehire, I know that I will get my previous sick leave reinstated, but at what rate? The new rate or at the rate at which I earned it?
Q. I retired from the Postal Service on July 1, 2011, under FERS and am receiving a FERS annuity supplement of $746 per month. I also was awarded Social Security disability in April 2011, with payments starting in November 2011. Can I still receive an annuity supplement when I am 62?
Q. I am looking for the documentation that allows a rehired annuitant to be hired into an acquisition position without the hourly (1,024) limitation on regular positions. Can you assist?
Q. My husband is a 35-year employee of the Forest Service. He is considering retirement and, after retirement, would like to apply for seasonal jobs at the National Park Service. Are retirees eligible to apply for seasonal jobs at other agencies?
Q. I recently made a lateral move from one federal law enforcement agency to another, after about four years with my former agency. I moved from one FERS-covered position to another. On my leave and earnings statement, my military service credit purchase/payment, which I paid in a lump sum about five years ago, has disappeared, and my cumulative FERS retirement funds reset to zero. I contacted the Office of Personnel Management, which instructed me that my former agency should have forwarded my “account” to OPM for maintenance, and that I would receive a letter stating the account was in maintenance…
Q. Since the federal government is in sequestration and I am looking at five to seven days of furlough during the summer, I would like to finish my college education, which would be one year of leave without pay from federal service. Is LWOP allowed for this with the federal government, and what type of separation is this referred to as? Can I collect unemployment benefits due to this type of separation? I am a GS-5 with 4½ years of employment with the federal government.
Q. I started receiving Social Security benefits when I was 65 (my eligibility age would have been 66). I am now 68 and contemplating going back to work at a job that pays into Social Security. Will that have any effect on the windfall elimination provision that is not deducted from my benefits? I had 38 credits in Social Security when I retired.
Q. I took an early retirement incentive from the Postal Service beginning Jan. 31, after serving 23 years, at age 56. I have started receiving my annuity benefit from the post office, but have yet to get the special retirement supplement that I was supposed to receive. Do I have to communicate with anyone special, or do I just have to wait for things to be calculated?
