Military buyback

0

Q. I had 12 years of active-duty time and have worked for the federal government for 13 years. I was always under the impression that the military time counted toward my retirement, as I was getting the leave credit since I started. I work in a field organization and was never provided any information on “buying the military service time.” Is there any way to get an exemption from paying the interest for the buy back time? I still haven’t found a human resources person in my organization to talk with about this issue.

A. There is no provision in law or regulations that would permit a waiver.
