Retirement eligibility

Q. I am 65 with 25 years of service. I have severe arthritis in my feet. I am going to apply for regular retirement. But if my foot pain gets severe enough, is there a way to retire in a week or so?

A. Because you are at least age 62 and have at least five years of service, you can retire on an unreduced annuity whenever you want. All you need to do is go to your personnel office, fill out the paperwork, set a date to leave, and retire.
