Q. Is it mandatory for a law enforcement officer who retires under FERS to take the special retirement supplement? I cannot find where it is written one way or the other.
A. Payment of the special retirement supplement is automatic. I can’t think of any reason why you would want to refuse it, and I’m not aware that you could if you wanted to.
