Retirement eligibility

Q. I am a 27-year FERS letter carrier with five years of military service for 32 years total. I’ll reach my minimum retirement age in 2016. I am 53 years old. Can I retire now? If so, how?

A. No, you can’t. The earliest you could retire would be when you reach your MRA. Note: If you haven’t made a deposit to get credit for your active duty service, it can’t be included when determining your total years of civilian service.
