File for unemployment during furlough?

0

Q. When a fed is furloughed, may we file for unemployment benefits? Does this jeopardize possible reimbursement by the government like in 1995 when they returned to work?

A. You can apply for unemployment benefits. Whether you would be granted them would be determined under state law. If granted, it might jeopardize any reimbursement by the government when the furlough ends. Now all anyone can do is speculate about how things will be handled when the shutdown ends.
