Q. Is there any talk of extending the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority? I understand it expired Dec. 31. I will hit minimum retirement age in two years, and am hoping for a VERA at that time, as I cannot afford to retire before I get my special retirement supplement, and I know I cannot qualify for that until I hit MRA.
A. I’m not aware that the VERA expired. What may have expired is a time period during which an agency was authorized to offer early retirement to its employees. VERAs are usually time limited, with specific beginning and ending dates.
