Q. Will my SSDI check be reduced If I am approved for disability retirement as a federal employee?
A. No, because it works the other way around. OPM will reduce your monthly FERS disability annuity by the amount of your Social Security disability benefit.

Can you expand on this? Example – SSDI benefit is $1,687 per month. If disability retirement annuity payment is $1,720 per month, does that mean that the annuity payment would be reduced to only $33 per month?
Yes.
So its ok to leave FERS alone and collect SSDI until i reach 62?
You’ll have to explain what you mean by “leave FERS alone.”
By not requesting FERS disability
By not requesting FERS disability, why bother getting $33 out of it.
