Q. I thought I had read that a FERS transferee going out under Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay would not rate the special retirement supplement. I do not recall where I saw this and am looking for verification if I may have misread something. Is there a special situation being a FERS transferee that would keep one from getting the supplement?

Q. I’m a FERS employee. If I take the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority that is offered now at the age of 56 with 25 years, will I be penalized anyway?
Q. I am a FERS employee offered a voluntary early retirement date of Jan. 31, 2014 (annuity effective date Feb. 1) I am eligible for optional retirement on Feb. 3, 2014, at age 56 with more than 31 years (annuity effective date March 1). Would taking the VERA a few days earlier affect my annuity amount? Which would be more beneficial?
Q. Husband, age 54, is retiring under Voluntary Early Retirement Authority on Dec. 31. He has 31 years with the Postal Service under CSRS and three years with the military and did not pay back his military time. He has 19 quarters earned for Social Security. He does not intend to earn the full 40 quarters of Social Security prior to age 62. If he earns the full 40 quarters after age 62 — say, at age 64 — what will happen?
Q. I am CSRS, age 55 with 30 years as of Nov. 18. I have been offered the Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay/Voluntary Early Retirement Authority to be out by Jan. 4, 2014. Which am I actually taking? The VSIP or the VERA?
Q. In September 2014, I will be 55 years old with 29 years of service. My minimum retirement age for full retirement is 56 (with 30 years). If I am offered a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay in September 2014 and take it, when would I start drawing my special retirement supplement? I will be 56 in March 2015.
Q. I am a 49-year-old, 27-year employee postmaster who is a FERS employee and is in the process of completing disability paperwork and Social Security disability paperwork. There is also a Voluntary Early Retirement Authority offer out there that I need to make a decision on by Nov. 29. If I take the VERA and I’m approved for my disability retirement by the Office of Personnel Management, can I change my retirement to the disability retirement? Also, if I take the VERA, can I still qualify for disability Social Security benefits?
Q. I started with the Postal Service when I was 31. I will be 55 in a few days. I am EAS 13 and strongly considering the latest Voluntary Early Retirement Authority. Is there some kind of calculator to figure out the special retirement supplement?
Q. I took the Voluntary Early Retirement Authority on Jan. 31 at my minimum retirement age. I had 26 years at the Postal Service under FERS. After 16 years of marriage, I became a widow. The only income I have is my annuity and the special retirement supplement from the Office of Personnel Management. Will I be eligible to receive Social Security benefits from husband at 60, and will they end at 62? When I turn 62, my supplement will end. I have $190,000 in the L2020 fund. Would it be beneficial to me to start receiving money from my…
Q. I have more than 14 years of civil service. I’m retired military (20 years). I’m almost 58 years old. I fall under FERS. A while back, an email came down asking who would be interested in Voluntary Early Retirement Authority/Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay. I replied in the affirmative. If they offer VERA/VSIP, my supervisor says he would not approve it for me, as he cannot afford to lose the position. My plan was to retire at 60, but if they offered VERA/VSIP I would go earlier. With talk of reductions in force, I’m concerned what course would be most…
