Q. I have 14 years in the military and have worked 11 years for the U.S. Postal Service. I want to do a total of 25 years. I will be age 49. Can I retire at this age?
Q. I retired not too long ago, then got a pamphlet called “Your Federal Retirement Benefits” from the Office of Personnel Management and noticed that my benefits, in part, are also based on the amount of military service I performed. They say my retirement shows: Total Fed Svc as 22 yrs, 0 month, which is correct; sick leave included is 975; military svc included in total is 00 yrs, 00 … which is incorrect. I did 23 years. Should this be corrected?
Q. I served four years as active Air Force and then joined the Air Guard. I finished with 20 years of service and can not apply for military retirement until I turn 60. After I left active duty I worked at the Veterans Administration hospital for seven years. Before I left, HR told me that if I bought my four years of active duty back and paid a fee, interest I believe they called it, I could receive a partial pension with 11 years when I turn 56. I’ve seen so many comments, some saying I can not collect both…
Q. I have 10 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and I paid my military deposit (14 years, nine months and 18 days), so my total time is 24 years and nine months. I’m leaving to return to school full time. If I come back after three to five years, I’ve been told I would be starting over, i.e., all that time is gone because of the break in service. Is that true?
Q. I served six years active duty with the Navy and 16 years with the Air Force Reserve. I bought back the six active years, as I am employed with the U.S. Postal Service. I retired from the Air Force Reserve back in 2011. How does the buy back help/hurt my military reserve retirement pay when I am 65?
Q. Do time-in-grade requirements apply to temporary promotions for less than 120 days? And if not, where can I find the regulation?
Q. I recently paid off my military buyback. Am I supposed to receive some type of form? Will it be reflected on my SF-50 or Leave and Earnings Statement? I currently work for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Q. I am 53 years old, and I retired from the Navy Reserve in 2008 with 21 years of service (13 active). I have been a GS employee since 2002 and have made a deposit for the active-duty time toward my civilian retirement. I plan to retire from the federal government when I am 56. Will I still be eligible for a military reserve retirement?
Q. I spent 13 years, 1987-2000, in the national guard, drill weekends and annual training periods. I have been working for the Department of Defense since 2006. Does any of this time count toward my retirement or leave accrual?
