Q. I have been a DHS officer for 13 years under FERS. If I am terminated for policy violations and do not request a refund of my retirement contributions, will I be entitled to a partial pension at age 62? If so, will my sick leave count as more months of service? What happens to my annual leave?

Q. When you elect to retire under the MRA + 10 and postpone receipt of annuity, what happens to your unused sick leave? I assume they cut me a check for unused annual leave (please correct me if I’m wrong). I am at my MRA (56) with 20+ years of creditable service.
Q. I would like to be eligible for the 1.1 multiplier. As I already have 2,700-plus hours of sick leave (more than 1 year), does this mean I could retire at 61 years of age? In other words, do years of service also include unused sick leave?
Q. Can the sick leave balance be used to push a retiring employee beyond the 20-year point? If the worker, older than 62, wants to retire on Feb. 1 but is five months short of 20 years and has 5½ months of sick leave, will the balance push the service beyond 20 years?
Q. I retired at age 64 with 41 years and nine months. I had over 2,457 hours of sick leave. I also had two years military. At the time of retirement I did not qualify for Social Security. I am now 70 1/2 and work a part-time job. I now qualify for Social Security. Due to sick leave saved I get 82 1/2 percent of my high-3. Will applying for Social Security in any way affect my annuity?
