VSIP

Q. I am retiring this year (CSRS). I am being told to submit paperwork now. After I submit paperwork, will I be eligible for Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay? How long can they take before they let us know?

A. The main reason for offering a VSIP is to encourage employees to retire who might not do so without a financial incentive. If you have already submitted your retirement application, it wouldn’t make sense for your agency to offer you a VSIP.

As far as how long an agency can wait before letting employees know about a VSIP, there isn’t any rule. However, it would a good idea for them to do so far enough in advance to allow employees to make up their minds before the window closes.
