Affordable Care Act and retirement date

0

Q. I am covered by CSRS retirement plan and have until the 3rd day of any given month to retire to be on the rolls for the following month. I am planning to retire at the end of this year. I understand the Affordable Care Act becomes law Jan. 1, 2014. What is the impact of retiring in January on my health insurance coverage?  Would it be more advantageous to me to retire at the end of December rather than January?  I am 57 and will not be eligible for Medicare.

A. There is nothing in the Affordable Care Act that would cause you to choose one date over the other.
