Impact of backlog on first retirement check

0

Q. I plan on retiring in January 2014. If I get my application in by early November and the Office of Personnel Management is still struggling with a backlog of applications, what will be the impact in regards to my first retirement check in early February?

A. You can’t get your retirement application to OPM. Your agency is the only one that can do that, and it can only do it after you retire and they have closed out your account.
