Q. I am a FERS employee with the Defense Department retiring with approximately 11 years of service on Nov. 30. I submitted my retirement application a few months ago. Is there any way to find out the status of the application?
A. Because you sent in your application so far ahead of time, it may be waiting in a queue for processing. Your retirement counselor should be able to tell you its status. However, you need to understand that your agency won’t be sending your application to the Office of Personnel Management until you are actually off its rolls.
