When to submit retirement package

0

Q. I plan to retire May 31, 2014.

1. How soon can I submit my retirement package?

2. If a Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay is offered before my retirement date, can I amend the date to get the VSIP?

A. 1. There isn’t any set time for submitting a retirement application. However, most sources suggest that you submit it no later than 90 days before you plan to retire.

2. Because an agency offers VSIPs to encourage employees to retire who might not do so without the financial incentive, it would have no reason to offer one to an employee who has already made up his mind and proved it by submitting a retirement application. Still, you never know.
