Unused annual leave at retirement

0

Q. An earlier post mentioned that you would get a payout of unused annual leave if you retire before Jan. 5, 2019. What happens to your unused annual leave if you retire after Jan. 5, 2019?

A. The question involved unused annual leave that exceeded the carryover limit, which for most employees is 240 hours. Retiring after the end of a leave year would result in any hours over 240 being lost. For example, if you had 286 hours of annual leave and retired after the end of a leave year, 46 hours would be dropped, leaving you with only 240 hours.
