mY HUSBAND WAS SUPPOSE TO FILE FOR RETIREMENT FOR JUNE 1, 2016, BUT GOT SICK AND IS IN HOSPITAL INTESIVE CARE UNIT, SHOULD HE JUST WAIT UNTIL HE GETS BETTER OR CAN I FILE HIS FORMS.
OR SHOULD HE JUST USE ANNUAL LEAVE?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. However, because he is ill, it would make sense for him to use his accumulated sick leave first. That way he will continue to receive his full salary while in the hospital and during recovery, earn additional sick and annual leave while on the employment rolls, and have those additional weeks and months used in the computation of his annuity when he does retire.
