Self Plus One coverage

1

Q. What is the difference in cost to me personally if I switch from Self and Family to Self Plus One health coverage? Also, will my wife be able continue federal BCBS after my death if I switch to Self Plus One?

A: The cost depends on which plan and option you choose. In most cases, the premiums for Self Plus One will be less than those for Self and Family. However, in a few cases, the premiums for Self and Family will either be the same or higher.

In the event of your death, your wife will be able to continue her coverage if you were enrolled in a Self Plus One or Self and Family option when you died and she is either receiving a survivor annuity based on your employment or is entitled to a CSRS or FERS annuity on her own.
