Q. I need to cancel my Blue Cross and Blue Shield FEHB coverage. How can I do that?
A. You can cancel your FEHB coverage by completing a Standard Form 2809, found at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/sf2809.pdf, and sending it to OPM.

I thought you could only cancel insurance during open season or a qualifying life event, even in retirement?
Insurance can be cancelled at any time.
At retirement I was eligible for CSRS regular retirement. I elected the disability retirement. I am 6 years post CSRS disability retirement.
I will be 60 years old February 2018.
I have an outside long term care policy. It has a waiting period of 90 days paid care vs the OPM offered one of 30 days paid care (waiting period to receive benefits)
1. Can I add the OPM long term care plan after retirement?
2. If added, is this done during open season each year or at anytime during the year?
3. Are there penalties associated with adding it after retirement?
Don’t cancel FEHB! You can suspend it instead, just in case a situation comes up that you might need it again. I just went to a retirement seminar, suspending it is the way to go.
He can’t suspend his FEHB enrollment. Only those who are enrolled in Tricare or CHAMPVA can do that.
Ah, yes, I’m a Guard Technician so that would’ve been why we were briefed that. Sorry for my bad info 🙁
I retire in 11 months. Should have done this a year ago but, I turned 60, am eligible for Tri Care. I want to switch to Tri Care and cancel my FEHB now. Do I need to fill out a form and send it in or what. Getting no help by calling any place. Thanks and I apologize if this has already been answered.
Do not cancel your FEHB coverage. Instead, suspend it. You can do that by filling out form RI 79-9,available at http://www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/ri79-9.pdf, and sending it to OPM.
I am moving to another country shortly, where I will not be able to use my FEHB. Should I cancel or should I suspend it? The move will be permanent.
Your only choices are to keep the coverage or cancel it. Only those individuals who are electing to be covered by TRICARE of CHAMPVA can suspend their coverage.
Many FEHB plans are good for out-of-country healthcare. Do you want to wait for open season and change to a different plan?
