Q.  I was injured on the job with the post office, and now I’m receiving workers’ compensation. Because on my injury, I will not return to work anytime soon. My questions is, I’m turning 65 this month and I’m thinking about applying for Social Security. Would this have an effect on either one as far as funds?

A. Yes. If you receive workers’ compensation or other public disability benefits and Social Security disability benefits, the total amount of these benefits cannot exceed 80 percent of your average current earnings before you became disabled.
