Minimum retirement age

Q. I am a 43-year-old federal law enforcement officer with 20 years of service. I know that I can retire at 25 years of service at age 48 and receive a pension of 39 percent. Can I retire early with the 20 years and receive a reduced pension? How much would it be reduced by?

A. You don’t meet the criteria to retire under any scenario. If you are determined to leave, you could resign and apply for a deferred annuity at your minimum retirement age, which would be 56 years, eight months if you were born in 1968 or 56 years, 10 months if 1969.
