FERS sick leave conversion

Q. I have 27 years and three months of service under FERS.  I understand that in 2014, remaining sick leave for FERS employees can be converted “day for day”  versus current “1/2 day for day.”  If I consider retirement in January 2014, will my one year of sick leave credit apply toward putting me over the 30-year threshold  and qualify me for the 1.1 percent year of service annuity rate?

A. No, it won’t. Only actual service is used when determining your years of service for retirement purposes. Unused sick leave is added after that determination is made.
