FERS supplement for rehired annuitant

2

Q. I will retire under FERS and will be rehired by an agency as a rehired annuitant. Will I still receive my full supplement?

A. If your earning from wages or self-employment exceed the annual Social Security earnings limit, your special retirement supplement will be reduced or eliminated. In 2012, the earnings limit is $14,640. If you exceed that limit, $1 in benefits will be deducted for every $2 in earnings.

  1. Dear Sir:
I am a FERS retiree. I am paying the offset of my salary for my annuitant payment. The agency is taking out FERS deductions every pay day. Should this be happening? If so will my annuitant be adjusted when I complete the rehire annuitant time period? Or will I receive a refund?

    Thank you
    Jim Bryant

    • if you work for less that 1 year, you won’t receive a refund of your retirement contributions. If you are reemployed for at least 1 year, you’ll be entitled to a supplemental annuity. If you work for at least 5 years, you’ll be entitled to a redetermined annuity.
