CSRS Offset information

Q. Before working for the U.S. government, I worked in the private sector for about eight years and will be receiving Social Security at age 62, in about five months. After working in the private sector, I worked for the U.S. Postal Service and have since retired under CSRS Offset. How will this offset affect me with my Postal Service retirement?

A. At age 62, your CSRS annuity will be offset by the amount of Social Security benefit you earned while covered by CSRS Offset. The offset is automatic and will occur whether or not you apply for that benefit.
