CSRS Offset and Social Security

Q. I am a CSRS Offset employee. If I retire at age 60, am I required to take Social Security at age 62, or can I delay my Social Security benefit until age 65 or later?

A. You aren’t required to apply for a Social Security benefit at age 62. When you decide to apply for one is up to you. However, at age 62, your CSRS annuity will be automatically reduced by the amount of Social Security benefit you earned while a CSRS Offset employee.
