FEHB and the Affordable Care Act

Q. I know that the Affordable Care Act requires congressional employees to get their insurance through the new health exchanges. Now legislation is being proposed that will require all federal employees to get their insurance from the exchanges. I will turn 65 soon. How would this legislation affect health care benefits and costs for retirees like me?

A. Proposals come and proposals go. And those that become law seldom look like they did when first introduced. Therefore, I don’t try to track a bill’s potential impact until it is close to enactment.
