Wrong retirement plan?

Q. I would like to know how my service computation date is calculated based on the following:

Date joined the military in the Delayed Entry Program: Jan. 22, 1982

Date went active duty: Aug. 25, 1982

Date left the military under the special separation benefit: Jan. 31, 1994

Date entered civilian service: May 26, 1998, to present

Please advise because they are covering me under the FERS and I believe I am in the wrong retirement plan.

A. You are in the right retirement plan. Your active-duty service has no effect on that. The coverage determination is based on the date when you were actually hired as a civilian employee. Because that was after Dec. 31, 1983, you are covered by FERS.
