Sick leave and the 1.1% FERS annuity calculation

0

Q. Can I use my sick time to retire at an early age and still be eligible to receive the 1.1 percent FERS annuity calculation? I am a 26-year employee of the Postal Service, age 60. I have 1,700 hours of sick time.

A. No, on both counts. First, the 1.1 percent multiplier won’t be used unless you retire at age 62 with at least 20 years of service. Second, sick leave can’t be used to increase your length of service.
