Special retirement supplement

Q. I am a Postal Service employee under FERS. I plan on retiring at age 57 with 27 years of service. I want to get the special retirement supplement until the age of 62, then wait until 66½ to collect Social Security. Will my taking the supplement lessen my Social Security payment when I get it at 66 and six months?

A. Because you would be retiring under the MRA+10 provision, you wouldn’t be entitled to the special retirement supplement. Therefore, the rest of your question is moot.
