Health insurance coverage and premiums

Q. Under the new health care law implemented by President Obama, will retired federal government employees be allowed to continue their health care coverage under their current PPO Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy? If so, will our premiums go up significantly for 2014? I pay $450 monthly to cover myself and my spouse.

A. Yes, you’ll be able to continue your FEHB coverage. The premiums you pay will be those that are set through the most recent negotiations between the Office of Personnel Management and the carriers. It’s unlikely that the Affordable Care Act will have any effect on those premiums.
