Offset

Q. I retired from the Department of Justice, and I got another federal job with the Veterans Affairs hospital. Will they only take the offset money for one year? They take $1,300 every two weeks which only leaves me with $500 every two weeks. How long will this continue?

A. The offset to your salary will continue as long as you are working. Note: You are receiving more money now than you would be if you had to rely solely on your retirement annuity. You are getting the same amount of money that you would have gotten if you had never retired and instead were working for VA. The only difference is that the money is now coming from two different places, the Office of Personnel Management and VA.
