Use-or-lose leave

0

Q. I plan to retire at the end of February. In January, I will receive 208 hours of use-or-lose leave. Will I be able to use the 208 hours or only get the days until I retire in February?

A. I assume you mean that you have 208 hours of leave that are over and above the 240 hours you can carry from one leave year to the other. Since the 2014 leave year begins on Jan. 12, 2014, any use-or-lose leave you still have at that time would be lost. How much of your excess leave you can use before that date is a matter between you and your agency. While it may try to accommodate your desire to use those hours, its needs come first.
