Social Security and FERS disability retirement

Q. I have just been approved for Social Security disability. I also applied for FERS in March I was terminated for not following leave regulations because I couldn’t go to work. Should my FERS case go through because I was approved for SSDI, or will it still be a complicated procedure? It seems, if Social Security decided that I can’t work, I obviously can’t do the work I was doing at the Defense Finance and Accounting Services.

A. Because the standards one has to meet to be approved for SSDI are higher than those for FERS disability retirement, you aren’t likely to have any problem being approved for the latter.
