Buying back military service

0

Q. I completed nine years and 10 months of active military service. If I buy back five years of service at county government level (max allowed at county level), will I be able to buy back the remaining four years and 10 months of active service based on acquiring a federal job after county retirement?

A. No. Neither your work for the county nor your deposit to the county to get credit for your active-duty service would be creditable if you go to work for the federal government. While you’d never get credit for your county service, you could get credit for your active-duty service by making a deposit to the federal civilian retirement system.
