Resignation vs. retirement

2

Q. I am a retired annuitant, and I will be retiring for the second time. Does this constitute a retirement or a resignation? I have worked for six years, and I have been receiving my full benefits without an offset. Am I eligible for a recomputation of years of service?

A. Because you received your annuity and the full salary of your position, you aren’t eligible for a recomputation of your annuity. For that reason, you will be resigning, not retiring.

  1. I am retired from Veterans Affairs Medical Center and returned to work for 2 and a half years! Now decided to leave and gave two weeks resignation letter! They did a offset and I’ll revived few dollars more in my OPM annuity. Was a resignation letter good since I’m already retired?

    • Yes, it was the right thing to do. By giving them advance notice, you not only gave them time to reassign anything you were working on to someone else but you were able to bring them up to speed before you left.
