Military retirement

Q. Will I eligible for a military retirement and a FERS retirement pension after 10 years of active duty and 22 years with ANG? I bought back my military time. And if so, will my Social Security be affected once I am eligible?

A. Yes, you’ll be entitled to both annuities. Your Social Security benefit will be based on your entire Social Security-covered work history.

Note: If you receive the special retirement supplement when you retire from the ANG, that benefit will end at age 62 when you first become eligible for a Social Security benefit.
