Military buyback and MRA

0

Q. I’m 50 years old. I served four years in the Air Force and 26 years with the Veterans Affairs Department under FERS. If I buy back my military time, what age could I retire?

A. Whether or not you made a deposit to get credit for that time, the earliest you could retire is when you reach your minimum retirement age, which is 56. Making the deposit would increase your annuity by 4 percent.
