Q. I have a friend on a full disability retirement through FERS. He has become eligible for Medicaid and told me he wants to drop his Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance.
1. Is this a good idea?

A. 1. It’s rarely a good idea to drop coverage in the Federal Employees Health Benefits program because he won’t be able to re-enroll later on if he finds he needs it.
