Taxation of FEHB premiums for law enforcement

0

Q. Are the health care premiums taxed once we retire if we retire with law enforcement officer retirement?

A. While there is a $3,000 deduction available for law enforcement officers, like everyone else, you may be able to deduct expenses you paid for medical and dental care (including premiums) for yourself, your spouse and your dependents by the amount by which your total medical expenses exceed 10 percent of your adjusted gross income or 7.5 percent if you or your spouse is 65 or older. The 7.5 percent limitation is a temporary exemption from Jan. 1, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2016, for individuals age 65 and older and their spouses.
