Term position, leave and creditable service

0

Q. I am a term employee (not to exceed five years) participating in FERS. My term is ending in April. If I get a permanent position prior to that, what happens to my annual leave and sick leave. Does my term time count toward retirement?

A. Your accumulated annual and sick leave will carry over to your new position. Assuming that retirement deductions were taken from your pay, that time will count for retirement. If they weren’t, that time won’t be creditable, nor could you make a deposit to get credit for it.
