Retirement eligibility

Q. I have a service computation date of March 1987. I would like to retire within the year. I am 54 years old (June 1959 birth date). Will I be able to retire before the minimum retirement age of 56 and receive my monthly annuity payment as a FERS employee? How do I do that? Is there a way to change my MRA?

A. No, you can’t retire before you reach your MRA, which is fixed by law.
