Q. I’m enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits program. It seems taking Part A of Medicare, which is free, can’t hurt. Is that true? How would taking Part B of Medicare help or hurt? I now also cover my wife and three children.

A. Not only can taking Part A not hurt, it will reduce your out of pocket costs. Whether you enroll in Part B, for which you’d have to pay the premiums, is up to you. Either way, it wouldn’t affect the benefits your wife and children receive from your FEHB enrollment.
