Service credit & leave accrual

Q. Should I receive service credit and/or leave accrual for actual service during a war? I have active service with the Navy during the Persian Gulf War, from  Aug. 2, 1990, to Jan. 2, 1992. I’m currently employed with the federal government.

A. Full credit for annual leave accrual purposes is given for actual service to all non-retired former members of the armed forces. Service credit is only given if you make a deposit to the retirement system for that time.
