Q. What is the difference in benefits for CSRS disability and regular retirement with 38 years of service?
A. There isn’t any. As a rule, disability benefits will equal earned benefits for any employee who has at least 22 years or more of CSRS service.

My wife is on CSRS disability retirement. She retired at the age of 42. As I understand the regulations at the age of 62 her retirement changes to a regular retirement but her 1099 still says “3- Disability”. She is now 64 years old. She has 21 years and 11 months of service. does any of this change anything?
Assuming that she continues to be disabled, under CSRS her disability benefit will continue as long as she lives. FERS disability beneficiaries are the only ones whose disability benefit is converted to a regular retirement benefit at age 65.
I tried to research it but just gave up with all the government speak. Thanks a lot. Jim
